Chief Guest Speaker; Erica Georgiardis, President of Hypatia Lodge of the Theosophical Society in Greece. She will be giving the Blavatsky Lecture:
The Olympian Ideal of Universal Brotherhood
Can Universal Brotherhood ever become a reality? In order to answer this question this presentation will first define what is Universal Brotherhood. Then will evaluate the evolution of this ideal, in the history of Theosophical Society and in the Western World in General, in contrast with the dilemmas of globalization and multiculturalism. Subsequently, it will explore its theoretical basis on the idea of unity in Hellenic thought, as well as on the perennial philosophy of Gemistos Plethon and H.P. Blavatsky.
Erica will also be giving the Public Lecture: The Symbolism of the Olympic Games at The Friends Meeting House, Hill Street, Coventry, CU1 4AN, on Wednesday 8th August 2012 at 7.30pm
Erica Georgiadis joined the Theosophical Society in 1991 and is a Fellow of the T.S. in Greece, president-founder of Stoa Hypatia and chief-editor of the Greek magazine Hypatia. For two years (1994-1996) she worked at the archives of the international headquarters of the Theosophical Society, Adyar in India. She is especially interested in Theosophical History, Western Esotericism, Hellenic Philosophy and Eastern Religions. In cooperation with a colleague, she compiled the book H.P.Blavatsky on Yoga and Occultism, published only in Hellenic language. She has lectured in many countries and is currently studying Philosophy and Social Psychology at the Open University in UK.
