Foundation for Theosophical Studies Newsletter Events Programme
January-March 2007

Dear Enquirer,

CHAKRA ENERGIES & SOUND: RESONANCES OF THE COSMOS

Welcome to the third e-newsletter of The Foundation for Theosophical Studies, which lists our events this week at the London headquarters of the Theosophical Society in England.

It includes details of all TS London open events, and this week features the well-known and popular author and workshop leader, James D'Angelo, bringing his latest workshop and lecture to the TS this Sunday. They are bound to be great fun and wonderfully instructive, so do try to come to both.

We also continue with our on-going Sunday course which introduces Theosophy and our Tuesday study course on Madame Blavatsky's major work,The Secret Doctrine.
Also this week, Malcolm Stewart begins an exciting new series of talks on the Tarot, details below.

Some people have expressed concern about giving their postal addresses when they sign up to this e- newsletter. Let us assure you that they will be used only to identify in which parts of the UK (or the world) you live, so that TS branches can send you details of local events in future. Meanwhile, if you can't get to 50 Gloucester Place, remember that you can buy CDs or tapes of many of our lectures

We are still working on the newsletter 'click- throughs' to our website. Meanwhile, you can access previous newsletters at the link below.

Thank you for all your comments so far about the newsletter and the sign up process. Please keep them coming! And finally, please forward this newsletter to your friends and fellow TS members and encourage them to sign up.

Very best wishes,
Colyn Boyce

    Malcolm Stewart 7 – 9 pm: TAROT – A MAP TO A DESTINATION:
THE WANDS – THE PATH OF THE BODILY TEMPLE

    Malcolm Stewart

The Tarot’s real potential is way beyond its familiar uses – either that of gleaning intuitive snapshots from haphazard readings, or as an esoteric catch-all glamourised with imported non-essentials. Most effectively used, it illuminates our entire vital, physical, emotional, mental and spiritual experience as one interwoven process. It provides an intimate route-map towards the state of freedom, understanding, happiness and transcendence known as "the blessing of the four aces", and further yet to the "grace of the world-soul".
Malcolm Stewart is an educator in sacred symbol systems.

    SUNDAY 4 February 2007

James D'Angelo 2 pm: AWAKENING CHAKRA ENERGIES THROUGH SOUND James D'Angelo

The key to our self-transformation lies in the vibrational spin of the chakras. The closer their frequencies are to the optimum the more we become who we really are and produce sound health at every level. Through the process of therapeutic vocal sound the chakras are stimulated and balanced, releasing fine energies. Four pathways are followed: toning, the sounding of mantras, ritualising natural sounds and chanting complemented by simple movements that encourage and direct the sound. Inner sound is explored leading to the meditation state where the greater healing lies. James D’Angelo has been leading therapeutic sound courses and workshops throughout Europe and the USA since 1994 and is considered an authority on sound healing practices.

    £15 (£10 concessions + TS members)

4.45 – 5.45 pm: THEOSOPHY: Way to Self- Discovery
Leader: Colin Price, National President of The Theosophical Society in England

An informal on-going class in which the basic teachings of Theosophy (Greek for Divine Wisdom) are explored and discussed. In this class we will consider the sevenfold nature of humanity and the cosmos and how karma and reincarnation are involved. The book Deity, Cosmos and Man will be used as the main source text for the meetings.
    Free admission

6 pm: RESONANCES OF THE COSMOS
    James D'Angelo

Any model of our universe (the one Word) is ultimately vibrational, a cosmic harp spawning an infinite web of frequencies. Their interplay creates a multiplicity of proportions, giving rise to various forms and language. It finds its natural microcosmic model in audible and speculative music as well as holistic sound for harmonizing spirit, mind and body. James D'Angelo is author of the The Healing Power of the Human Voice.

Victor Hangya TUESDAY 30 January 2007
7– 8.30 pm: THE SECRET DOCTRINE
    Leader: Victor Hangya

In the midst of today’s materialism and ruins of old religions you are invited to join the excavation of the perennial wisdom! The tool used in our exploration is The Secret Doctrine, which claims ‘logical coherence and consistency’ and expects to be treated as a ‘working hypothesis’, so freely accepted by modern science. The SD sheds light on some of the greatest mysteries concerning Man, God and the Universe. Victor Hangya has been exploring the Ageless Wisdom for more than 20 years.

    TAROT - A MAP TO A DESTINATION
    Tarot: The Fool

In 1782 an obscure Protestant theologian, native of the Languedoc, wrote the following:
“If one were to let it be known that there survives to this day an ancient Egyptian work, a book that escaped the fires that consumed their fine libraries, and which contained in pure form teachings on profound matters, everyone would no doubt rush to acquaint themselves with such a notable treasure.
If one were to add that this book was widely available to anyone in Europe and had been so for many centuries, people’s surprise would be greatly increased.
Would it not reach fever pitch on hearing that no one had ever thought the work to be Egyptian, that it was held of no account, that no one had deciphered a single page of it, and that the fruits of its boundless wisdom had been thought a collection fantastic pictures with no meaning therein? ...
This is however true. This Egyptian book survives – as the last remaining relic of their great libraries. In fact it is so commonplace that no scholar has thought it worthy of the slightest attention. Before us, no one has guessed its eminent origin.
The book comprises 77 or 78 leaves – pictures separated into five sections, each containing materials that are as various as they are diverting and instructive.
This book is, in other words, the game of Tarot.”

Court de Gebelin, Monde Primitif, volume VIII

Malcolm Stewart will give five lectures, Tarot: A map to a Destination
